At Associated Steel, we pride ourselves on offering an in-depth selection of alloy and carbon steels. These materials include hot roll heat treated, cold finished annealed, turned ground and polished, heat treated hollow stock, induction hardened linear shafting, pre-keyed shafting, keystock, and custom manufactured wear “rails”.
KROMITE® #3 – [4140/4150 (modified) Hot Roll, Heat Treated, High Strength Alloy]
It is offered in the hot roll, heat treated condition. Typical hardness is Rockwell “C” 28/34. Typical tensile strength 156,000 PSI. This proprietary product provides elevated strength and deep uniform hardness, excellent cleanliness, and refinement to the grain structure to enhance the fatigue resistance of the steel. Good choice of steel for machined parts requiring higher resistance to toughness and general impact resistance.

KROMITE® #3 HOLLOW BAR – [4140 (modified) Quench & Tempered, High Strength Alloy, Hollow Bar]
It is offered in the hot roll, heat treated condition. Typical hardness is Rockwell “C” 28/34. Typical tensile strength 145,000 PSI. Offers all the same mechanicals as the solid bar but offered in heavy hollow stock for sleeves, wear rings, bushings and dies.
MIRRALOY® TGP – [4140/4150 (modified) Turned Ground & Polished, High Strength Alloy Shaft]
It is offered in the heat treated, TGP condition. Typical hardness is Rockwell “C” 28/34. Typical tensile strength 156,000 PSI. This is a “near” bearing-fit shaft. Good choice of steel for machined parts requiring higher resistance to fatigue, toughness and general impact resistance. It is offered stress relieved, machine straightened and has a precision finish of RMS 15.

KROMITE® CD – [4140 (modified) Cold Finished, Annealed Alloy Bar Stock]
It is offered in the cold finished annealed condition. Typical hardness is Rockwell “C” 19/24. Typical tensile strength 114,000 PSI. Its wear resistant properties far exceed that of “cold roll” steels. Offers an excellent upgrade in applications where 1018, 1020, 1045 and 1060 carbon steels are being utilized. Single largest selection of cold drawn alloy shapes in one location in North America.

Redi-Rail® (Formerly Kromite® CD60) – [Custom Hardened, Precision Finished, Wear Rail]
Hardness range from Rockwell “C” 38/42 to 55/62 depending upon application. This customer-manufactured component is suited to handle many applications that are found in various industries including automotive, food processing, material handling, and large manufacturing. Specific applications include transfer rails, “NC” blocks, guide rails, machine ways and various OEM parts.

KROMITE® ECONO-FINISH – [4140/4142 (modified) Heat Treated, Decarb-Free, Pre-Machined Alloy]
This alloy plate product is 100% decarb-free and blanchard ground top and bottom (+.015”/+.035” oversize) for final clean-up. Typical hardness is Rockwell “C” 28/34. All products are saw cut from plate with stock allowance.
Squares and Flats
KROMITE® THREADED BAR – [Heat Treated, All Thread, High Strength Alloy]
This all thread bar product meets ASTM A193, Grade B7 standards. It is creep resistant, heat treated, and manufactured as a roll threaded bar. Threaded rods that are rolled instead of cut are smoother and have less surface imperfections. Typical tensile strength 155,000 PSI.

MIRRALOY® FM TGP – [1144 (modified) Free Machining, Turned Ground & Polished, Carbon Shaft]
This is a high strength micro-alloyed, free machining carbon steel. Typical hardness is Rockwell “C” 26. Typical tensile strength 133,000 PSI. Exhibits up to 50% more strength than that of a 1018 carbon steel. This is a “near” bearing-fit shaft. Machinability is 83% of C1212. Good choice of steel for machined parts requiring better tensile strength and wear resistance than 1045 or 1018.
